Baby K'Tan Review

I have wanted to try the Baby K’Tan ever since we had our now 2-1/2 year old daughter.  They seem to have it all figured out with the compact size, different sizes for different sized people, one piece – no lost parts, no buckles and other clanking pieces, it’s soft, and can be used with newborns through toddler age.  I should also mention that the Baby K’Tan was one of Pregnancy Magazine’s Best of 2008 Baby Products and voted “Best Dad Carrier” by GreatDads.com

Well, this time around I was able to give the Baby K’Tan a try when our second daughter was born in the last 12 minutes of July 2011!  Well, I guess I didn’t really get to try it out until rather recently.  I ended up having an emergency c-section due to a prolapsed cord and the vertical incision left me rather sensitive to having anything touch my stomach for MANY weeks as well as other aches and pains related to the surgery.  When I was ready to try it out, I was amazed!  The carrier is so simple to put on.  I have to admit I read over the instructions very quickly before trying it out, but got a perfect fit right away and baby was so comfy that she fell asleep almost immediately.  She loves snuggling and this carrier provides her with a cozy place to take a nap, right where she likes to be, in close contact with someone familiar!  I like that baby is happy, but I also like that I can have my hands free to do other things during a busy day.

Baby K’Tan carriers fit infants and toddlers in 5 positions, from 8-35 lbs.  There are many colors, sizes and options to choose from when selecting your perfect K’Tan.  They have cotton, organic and even mesh carriers that range in price from $62.99 to $73.99.  The sizing runs very similar to that of t-shirt sizing…XSmall, Small, Medium, Large and XLarge.  The sizing chart can be found on their website at http://www.babyktan.com/sizing.html
The one that I purchased was the 100% cotton in Basic Black.  Black is slimming, right?!  The set comes with a matching beanie hat for baby and a sash, which would work perfect as a nursing cover for even the most modest of breastfeeding Moms.  I also loosely wrapped it around the carrier and myself for extra warmth on cooler days.

I’ve worn the K’Tan several times around the house and yard and have brought it with me to town for the occasional shopping trip.  The back support loop for parents makes it so comfortable to wear.  All you do it pull down on the loop and baby’s weight is evenly distributed across your body and carrying is no problem.  Even after many weeks of very little physical activity, I was able to make it around the mall without feeling fatigued or uncomfortable.  Baby slept the whole time and I got quite a few compliments on the carrier as well!
So, if you are expecting, make sure this carrier is on your list of NEEDS and if you already have a little one at home, be sure to give this carrier consideration even if you already own other brands of carriers.  You won’t be disappointed.  I will be posting pictures as soon as possible so you can see the fit, in the meantime, I am including photos from the website for your viewing pleasure.
A list of retailers can be found at http://www.babyktan.com/stores.html or you can purchase directly from the company at http://www.babyktan.com/shop.html

GoGreen Pocket Diapers Review and Giveaway - Ends 12/12/10

Comment #75 - Follow the Tootsie Woots blog via Google Friend Connect

It was in October that I first contacted Leah at GoGreen Pocket Diapers. The reason I contacted her is because I saw something totally amazing on her website. Cloth diapers in MANY colors for as little as $8.99 per diaper! Can you believe it?! I was very skeptical about the whole deal, but had to know for myself if they were as good as other diapers I’ve tried on my daughter, and…I’ve tried a lot!

Leah let me choose which diaper we wanted to test and I couldn’t make up my mind so she chose from my “finalist list” for me. Thanks Leah! LOL She sent me the Sunshine yellow diaper.

After a very fast delivery, I was very excited to open up the package and try it out, but of course after snapping a few pictures I stuck in the wash as you should with all new cloth diapers.

GoGreen Pocket diapers are one-size, meaning that they have adjustable snaps that you can use to fit babies and toddlers of many sizes. It doesn’t actually list this information on the website anywhere, but usually one-size diapers will fit a child from 8 – 35lbs. The information on the website just indicates that there are settings for Small, Medium and Large.

After the diaper was washed, I did some more inspection and took note of some things…

1. The outer fabric is a bit stretchier than my other diapers. I was afraid to pull on the snaps like I do with other diapers. I kind of felt like I was going to tear the fabric near the snaps.

2. The fabric gathers at the pocket opening. The pocket opening is where you stuff your inserts in so that the diaper is absorbent.

3. The diapers come with one insert. I would suggest purchasing one extra. It’s nice to have two in case you have a heavy wetter or for bedtime/naptime.

4. The color is remarkably bright and cheery!

5. The fabric that touches baby’s skin is very soft!

Here are some photos of the diaper as received.

As soon as my daughter wakes up, I will take a pic of her wearing the diaper.  Our laptop decided to crash the other day and that was where I had her photos stored.  :(

Now, here is what I have to say after using the diaper for a couple of months...

1. Although the fabric is stretchy, I’ve not had any problems with tears. Seems to be holding up just fine and the snaps are still “snappy”!

2. The gathering at the pocket opening is very nice for keeping those inserts from creeping out and making an appearance. A lot of inserts on the market are made extremely long and when you don’t have the gather at the opening, they be kind of tricky to get them to stay hidden.

3. I was able to use the diaper with just the one insert for daytime use, but needed to double stuff with one of my extra inserts for naptimes and such. This is very common with cloth diapers and would not be considered an “issue”.

4. That bright and cheery color is here to stay. I have not noticed any fading at all!

5. Even the fabric that touches baby’s skin has stayed soft. Some other pocket diapers can get pilly, but so far this one hasn’t and I’ve used it for a couple months now.

6. I’ve not noticed any stray threads or loosening of seams. All in all, I’m very impressed with this diaper.

GoGreen Pocket Diapers have a great product here and you can’t hardly beat the price of $8.99/diaper! GGPD sells a variety of diapers…solid silky, printed silky, pastel silky, and even fuzzy! Other accessories available on their website include…wipes, microfiber inserts, wet/dry bags, and even gift certificates.

Additional information about GGPD
1. Shipping is a flate rate of $5.00 per order

2. They have a 15 day wash ‘n wear policy, which they describe as…”Use our diapers for two weeks and if you don't LOVE them by the end of 15 days, send 'em back for a full refund”.

Sounds pretty great, doesn’t it?!

Knoodle Knits Review & Giveaway - Ends 11/30/10

WINNER WINNER
Random.org has spoken, and...
April Nantz is the winner of the Knoodle Knits giveaway!

I recently did a review and giveaway for winter gear, who went out and bought their hats, gloves, and scarves since then?  If you didn’t, you should really get after it. Old man winter has definately settled in here!  BRRRRR.....!

I was sent a wool knit “Matty Hat” from Knoodle Knits for review! Christine (owner) has been so kind and very helpful throughout our conversations and ordering process...she’s a pleasure to work with!
Here is a picture of the hat that we received.  Hard to tell in the pictures, but the hat is actually plum colored and medium pink.

The hat is very well made, the stitches are even and flawless. The Matty Hat has cute gathers in the corners that are tied off with coordinating yarn, they add a fun little detail to the hat!

The brim is quite wide and can be worn either up or down. Right now the hat is plenty big for my daughter, so she wears it up. I’m guessing she’ll still be able to wear the hat next winter and then we can pull the brim down.  I was going to include a photo of my little one wearing the hat, but Blogger is not agreeing with me tonight.

If you live “up north”, your little one(s) will love having a wool hat, they are so nice and toasty, all while remaining soft enough for delicate skin.

Be sure to check out all of Knoodle Knits products by going to her pages.  She has numerous wool products for sale, including longies and they are just adorable!

For the Monster - Feminine Cloth Review & Giveaway - CLOSED

Congratulations Nicole Sommer!  You won!

Random.org chose comment #8 and I can't get it to load right now  :(

First off, how many of you out there know what Feminine Cloth or Mama Cloth is? I didn’t until a few months ago, so for those of you in the dark, I will shed some light on the subject. Feminine cloth is reusable, washable, and a great eco-friendly alternative to dealing with monthly visits from “Aunt Flo”.

I have been a dedicated user of tampons for years and years, practically right from the beginning, so trying out Feminine Cloth was a big adjustment for me. I think it is one that I could get use to for the following reasons.

1. It is popular belief that the chemicals found in disposable suppositories actually make your period heavier and last longer since it throws your body all out of whack.  Say goodbye to TSS (Toxic Shock Syndrome) warnings on the products you use!

2. Better for the environment. Just like disposable diapers, suppositories add to landfill waste and can be prevented.

3. Easy to use. All you do is unfold, connect the wings via a snap and you are done!

4. Cute! Feminine cloth is becoming as popular as cloth diapers these days. You can find all sorts of styles and fabrics! The package I was sent from For the Monster have shiny floral patterns.

5. Just like disposables, they come in all shapes and sizes. I’ve seen regular, lights, liners, heavy, postpartum and even thongs!

6. Clean up is a piece of cake. Just like with cloth diapers, you don’t want to use a detergent that is going to leave a film on them, otherwise they will start to repel moisture. Make sure you use a diaper safe detergent and you’re golden.

Okay, are you curious to see what Feminine Cloth looks like? Here’s some pictures taken of them expanded and folded up. That’s right…they snap to themselves and look like a little envelope when not in use, which is very convenient for storage and travel. Plus after use, it keeps everything inside where it should be.

If you are concerned about what to do about getting your FC back and forth from the bathroom or what to do when you are traveling, they make mini wetbags that are lined with a waterproof material so that you don’t have leaks and no one will be the wiser. Some wetbags even have a dry compartment for unused product. To everyone else, they will just think it’s your purse/clutch!

I have to admit, I thought I would have a major problem with cleaning the FC. I mean, how do you get bright red out of white cloth? Well, I’m not sure what happened in the washing machine, but it was taken care of. They came out just as white as if they were new!

All in all, it’s definitely an adjustment, but I think it is one that is well worth it!
